“The First Day of Preschool” (Parody to “The Twelve Days of Christmas”)

Sometimes writing inspiration comes from the most unlikely places…like while school supply shopping at Target. Yesterday, while navigating the war zone that is the back-to-school aisle, as I was going back and forth between both daughters’ lists, I realized in counting all the supplies to make sure I didn’t forget anything—I was humming “The 12 Days of Christmas”—which inspired this parody. However, as a disclaimer, this is only meant to be comedic, and neither daughter’s supply list actually contained some of these amounts. Also when I was teaching, I did request an extensive school supply list. Let’s remember that our awesome, yet highly underpaid, teachers have to pay for most supplies themselves, so anything we can provide as parents is helpful and greatly appreciated. (And used to educate our own children!)
